A WISE student, Ms. TOMOI Hana won the Young Scientists Award at EUROGIN 2024

Congratulations to Ms. TOMOI Hana, winner of the EUROGIN 2024 Young Scientists Award

 Ms. TOMOI Hana, a WISE Student who is a Joint PhD student between the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) and the Graduate School of Tropical Medicine and Global Health, Nagasaki University, received the Young Scientists Award at EUROGIN 2024 in Stockholm, Sweden, March 13-16, 2024.

EUROGIN, founded in 1993, is the world-leading International Multidisciplinary Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Congress aiming at accelerating the reduction of the burden of HPV-related cancers and their mortality. The annual meeting brings together researchers, medical professionals, businesses, policy makers, and civic groups from around the world, especially from Europe and the United States.

The Young Scientists Award was established at EUROGIN 2023. The second award competition was held on 14th March 2024 at EUROGIN 2024. Five finalists, including Hana, were selected by the congress program committee among the submitted abstracts and invited on stage at EUROGIN 2024 to present their pitch. The other four finalists were young researchers from the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada.

Hana presented her PhD research project, “HPV vaccination decision-making among adolescent girls in Japan.” She was selected by the jury panel as the winner at the end of the session and will receive a prize from the congress.

Hana said, “I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my PhD supervisors, Dr. Ken Masuda, Dr. Heidi Larson, and Dr. Sharon Hanley, for their supporting and mentoring throughout my PhD program. I would also like to thank everyone who has been involved in my project.”
